The Inhumane Treatment of Britain’s Longest Serving Serial Killer
Richard Maudsley was born into abusive life. There is even an element that people believe his treatment is unjust.
Broadmoor Hospital and Prison

Within Broadmoor, patients were allowed to mix at certain times. During a rest break, patients decided to play football. During this time Maudsley and another patient, David Cheeseman invited David Francis into their cell. Francis was a convicted sex offender, having assaulted a seven-year-old girl. The pair barricaded the cell door and started to torture the twenty-six year old. Prison officers were unable to break the door down. They watched for nine hours, whilst Francis was tortured. He was killed when Maudsley pushed a plastic spoon through his ear. It was reported that his skull was so badly fractured you could see his brain.

This time Maudsley was found fit to stand trial and received a whole life order. As a dangerous killer, he was sent to Wakefield prison, which had been nicknamed Monster Mansion.
