The Atrocities Committed by Barkmann
Barkmann landed in Stutthof in 1944, becoming a cruel, omnipresent figure of terror in the lives of prisoners. Her atrocities included arbitrary beatings, shooting prisoners without remorse, and selecting individuals for the gas chambers. Survivors recount her indescribable cruelty, noting how she seemed to revel in the torment inflicted upon the prisoners. Such was her senseless barbarity, that she even killed people on the brink of natural death, just denying them a peaceful end.
