In 1985, Ridgway met Judith Mawson at a support group for single parents called Parents Without Partners. To Mawson, Ridgway seemed like a good man with strong morals and values. He was gentle and responsible and appeared to have his life together — just what women look for in a partner.
Ridgway updated his house and it wasn’t long before Mawson moved in with him.
Ridgway’s mother didn’t seem to present a problem for Mawson. If anything, she appreciated her hands-on approach and was glad that she was willing to help Ridgway with certain tasks, like checking his bank accounts and making major purchases.
Her would-be mother-in-law seemed to appreciate her, too — enough so that she eventually allowed Mawson to take over those responsibilities.
