Gary Ridgway: The Green River Killer
Gary Ridgway: The Green River Killer
Gary Ridgway, better known as the Green River Killer, is the second most prolific serial killer in American history.

Wife #2

In 1973, Ridgway married Marcia Winslow and the couple had a son, Matthew.

Matthew remembers his father as a calm person who rarely yelled and did the typical father-son activities with him, including going on camping trips and playing baseball. [5] Ridgway was present for school concerts and sporting events, as well.

Matthew told investigators on the day of his father’s arrest:

“Even when I was in fourth grade, when I was with soccer, he’d always, you know, be there for me. I don’t think I ever remember him not being there.”

While Ridgway was married to Winslow, he became extremely religious, reading the Bible aloud at home and at work, and sharing the Gospel door-to-door.

But that doesn’t mean that Ridgway adopted a religious lifestyle in his private life. He demanded that Winslow have sex with him outdoors and in public places, and insisted on doing it several times a day. Despite his newfound interest in God, he continued to have sex with prostitutes throughout the marriage.

Winslow became quite heavy and opted to have gastric bypass surgery in the late 1970s. The pounds fell off rapidly and suddenly men began paying attention to her newly svelte frame. This bothered Ridgway greatly. In his deeply insecure mind, having an overweight wife meant he never had to worry about another man stealing her away from him. He became extremely jealous and the couple fought regularly.

Many people have in-laws that they would prefer to not have to deal with, but Ridgway’s mother was far too involved in her son’s marriage. She controlled the couple’s spending, made decisions concerning their purchases, and even decided what Ridgway would wear. Moreover, she accused Winslow of not taking care of Ridgway properly.

In other words, Winslow’s mother-in-law became the bane of her existence and her interference further eroded Winslow’s relationship with her husband.

After seven years of marriage, the couple split. Following their divorce, Winslow claimed that Ridgway had once placed her in a chokehold during one of their arguments.
