Decoding the mystery of Rasputin's assassination
The mystery surrounding Rasputin's assassination is steeped in intrigue, conspiracy, and folklore, punctuated by a series of failed attempts that seem almost impossible.
It is recounted that on the night of December 30, 1916, a group of noble conspirators, led by Prince Felix Yusupov, invited Rasputin to a late-night gathering at the Yusupov Palace. Fed with cakes and wine laced with cyanide, Rasputin appeared not only to survive the poisoning but to thrive, seemingly oblivious to his intended fate.
When the poison failed, the conspirators tried shooting him, first with no effect, leading Yusupov to believe Rasputin was invincible. But subsequent shots managed to wound him severely.
Yet, the mad monk reportedly still showed signs of life, leading to his assailants clubbing him and finally dumping his body in the Neva River.
