In July 1982, Gary Ridgway earned the moniker “The Green River Killer” when two boys playing near the Green River discovered the body of Ridgway’s first known victim, 16-year-old Wendy Coffield. As the summer progressed, more and more bodies were found in the river, alarming the police and local residents.
