The 14-Year-Old Black American Sentenced to Death for Murder
Did George Stinney Jr deserve to be electrocuted for the murders?

Conviction Vacated

Seventy years after Stiney’s execution his conviction was vacated by Circuit Judge Carmen Mullen. In his judgment, he found that there had been a serious miscarriage of justice, and based on the evidence and how the trial was conducted the guilty verdict could not stand.

The double murders of the two little girls were sad. However, what makes the story so tragic is that the justice system added a third victim to this senseless killing. Neither the girls nor Stinney deserved to die. The miscarriage of justice motivated by racism in this case is extremely shocking. Stinney was let down by the justice system that was supposed to protect him while the real murderer got to roam the streets, facing no consequences.
