Ridgway was unwilling to call himself or view himself as a necrophiliac. Instead, he explained, he had sex with the women’s dead bodies because it was less risky than killing someone else. But when your kill count is over 70, it’s hard to believe Ridgway’s explanation.
The sadistic killer was able to benefit financially from his crimes in other ways, too. If he injured himself in the process of moving a body, he would simply claim a work-related injury and collect workers’ compensation.
It wasn’t difficult for Ridgway to pick up a prostitute or a hitchhiker. Like many other serial killers, Ridgway didn’t look like the type of guy who would strangle you, dump your body near a river, and return for a little post-mortem nookie. Sometimes he showed his newest “catch” a photo of his son to disarm her and make her trust him.
A loving father wouldn’t be out murdering people, right?
