When we think of deadly animals, the biggest and baddest often come to mind. But looking at the data in terms of which ones have caused the most death and devastation, we find that a surprising number of them aren't what we'd expect.
Alligators

This reptilian ambush predator has no doubt one of the most terrifying appearances in the animal kingdom. But despite this, the truth is that in the US, Alligators manage to kill, on average, only three people each year, which actually makes them less dangerous than lightning strikes.
Alligators don't stop growing, which is scary, considering how powerful and imposing they already are--male alligators are, on average, around eight to ten feet long but can reach an astonishing 15 feet as they grow older. And while they are known to be carnivorous opportunists, what many don't know is that they also dine on the occasional fruit, like wild grapes and citrus fruits.
