Famed businessman/inventor Freelan Oscar (F.O.) Stanley finished construction on the hotel in 1909. Six years earlier, Stanley’s doctor had ordered him to seek the clean, mountain air of the West, in hopes that it would ameliorate his tuberculosis. When his trip to Estes Park, Colorado did just that, Stanley fell in love with the area and vowed to return each summer.
